what's with all the headbands?

Was the subject line of an e-mail received by reader Janessa. (I have a reader besides my mom?) Maybe like Janessa, you've noticed that hair accessories are everywhere. I know some like to say it started with Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl (not that I would know, I don't watch it faithfully EVERY week... wait, yeah I do).
After doing some research I found that the head band can be dated all the way to 475 B.C.

Grecian women would wear gold, silver or leaf wreaths on the crown of their head. 2,484 years later the head band is the perfect accessory, the perfect mask for a bad hair day, and just another way to show your individuality.

After probing Janessa for more details, she expressed that although headbands are plentiful, she doesn't want to spend $10.00 or more on a headband she'll wear once or twice.

Currently on Etsy.com there are 4,212 headbands for women starting at $.20 and ending at $1500.00. When I see numbers like that, all I know is they must be pretty easy to make. So, I picked two styles that I love and decided to make them myself: feathers and flowers.

First stop:
I had to order a bulk lot of natural feathers online. It only cost me $7.69 + shipping to get 6 full bags of feathers. {Discount School Supply}

Next:
*Michael's Craft Store for silk flowers, felt and a hot glue gun.
Flowers were $1.00-$2.00 each.
*Target for plastic and elastic headbands
$10.00 for 5 plastic and 15 elastic.

All in all it took me less than 2 hours and cost around $40.00 to make 15+ headbands... and I still have supplies left over.

Grand total= $2.66/headband. Not bad don't you think J?
