Hit and Fun

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend Throwdown Showdown Five at the E-Center. This was my first time attending an MMA event or any event for that matter in which men hit each other and then shake hands after word. And though this type of event doesn’t typically attract me, after this weekend, I’ve become a fan. This is not the last time Chief attends an MMA event. The guys from Throwdown Elite put together a fantastic show and I’m sure anyone who was in attendance will agree.

My assistant Kristen and I had the opportunity to share a table with Amy Donaldson, a writer for the Deseret News. It was her first time attending an MMA event as well, so it was fun to relate to her reactions. You can read both of her great articles on the event here and here. She’s a much better writer than I and the only thing that I could add is: It was awesome and if you get a chance to attend Throwdown’s next event. Do it.

Highlight of the night – When Kristen and I realized that we had unknowingly met the most popular fighter of the night, Light Heavyweight Champion, Jordan Smith, before the show. That was a surprise. He and his corner guys could not have been a nicer group of guys.
