All you need is ignorance and confidence and the success is sure.
In the wake of a crushing defeat to the one team I hate more than anything (well, besides Team David Cook), I find myself surprisingly well. Â The reason is that I have found a way to look on the bright side of things.Â
There’s always a bright side to things (or silver lining, if you will). For example, if you watched Saturday’s game, you would think us BYU fans should have nothing to be proud of. Right? Dead wrong. The way I look at it, Utah’s best player (Max Hall) goes to my school. See? That’s called the bright side of things.Â
Saturday was a great day for me. Never mind what happened at Rice-Eccles Stadium. I choose to think about what happened at the Delta Center (I know it’s now Energy Solutions Arena by name, but it will always be the DC to me). After Max threw his third of five interceptions, I jumped in the car with my brother-in-law Neil, and we went to the Coldplay concert.Â
I don’t know what most people think of Coldplay, but they’re one of the rare super-big bands that I really like. Going into the concert, I had set the bar really high on how good I thought it would be. They blew my expectations out of the water, and put on a truly special show. It was pretty much the opposite of Saturday’s game.Â
It was one of those rare concerts where every song had you hooked, and the energy in the arena was palpable. Awesome show! It was so good that I almost forgot about the game. Almost. I was reminded of it again when Colplay played “Fix You,†a song about helping a downtrodden friend. It was a beautiful rendition, and not surprisingly, the song was played with blue lighting. “Poor BYU,†I thought.Â
But the concert ended with the song “Yellow,†the brightest of the primary colors. See, that's looking on the bright side of things. Â
Besides, now I can move on with my life, and turn all my attention to the Jazz. And they won’t break my heart until May or June. I have months before I’ll be hurt again. See, looking on the bright side.
