There's Snowflakes Like It On Earth

Your pulse quickens and your body senses that shot of adrenaline it hasn’t felt for months. You squint your eyes to peer through the fog to make sure you see what you thought you saw. The clouds lift and Timpanogos Mountain reveals that she wasn’t deceiving you. It’s snowing. All of a sudden, a breath of life is inhaled by hundreds of students living in Utah Valley. Characters come out of the woodwork and take part in life again. Why? It’s ski season.
If these ecstatic feelings haven’t sunk into your soul, then you likely aren’t a skier or a boarder. For those of you entertaining the idea of joining this community, there is a lot to consider, and the Snowriderz club can help.
First of all, you are heading in the right direction. You couldn’t choose a better place than Utah to get into these popular sports. You just can’t beat the “Greatest Snow on Earth”.
So, should you ski or board? Everyone has their own thoughts on this, and speaking to someone with experience in each will help a lot. Snowboarding tends to bang you up the most in the beginning, but the learning curve is usually shorter than that of skiing.
Pricing out equipment and clothing that will keep you safe and comfortable is a big step. Good winter apparel and equipment is necessary. If money is tight, you can look into renting equipment while you are figuring out what works best for you. As a member of the Snowriderz club, you can receive discounts at local shops; allowing you the chance to get decked out in the latest gear.
Next comes lift passes. The club makes getting your pass a little bit easier. For roughly the cost of fall semester’s textbooks, members can purchase a discounted season pass to the most popular resorts.
With a pass around your neck and gear in hand, time may be an issue, and you may not have a way to get up to the resorts. Snowriderz provides a car pool plan that allows members to post their available ski days along with their phone number. This will help you quickly find rides and new friends. No ski day need be missed.
The club has planned many activities like rail jams, ski and snowboard movies, parties, ski races, ski-with-a-pro days, and even a trip to Steamboat Springs in Colorado. This is one of the best ways to take advantage of our surroundings.
No matter what you decide to do this winter, make sure to get out of the house. With over 500” of snow falling on some of the most amazing terrain in North America, Utah’s ski season is worth taking advantage of.
