Miss Potter (2006)

By Angie Sorenson

We all remember Beatrix Potter’s cherished children’s books, but the true story of how her characters came to life is little known. It is hard to imagine that these books, whose colorful illustrations paint the landscape of so many childhood memories, and whose stories are told so lovingly by parents worldwide, were written by a woman who lacked much of a traditional childhood herself. Assuredly, it is this irony as well as Potter’s perseverance in the face of adversity that inspired her own life’s tale to be told in the movie, Miss Potter.
A lovely, insightful bio-pic of Potter’s journey through her own lonely childhood into the hearts and homes of children everywhere, Miss Potter is a movie sure to find its way into many hearts as well.
