This
film is awkward and unconventional, and I loved it. Ryan Gosling (The
Notebook) plays the title character Lars Lindstrom, a quiet, gentle man
who is convinced he has found true and lasting love with Bianca. But
when he brings his new girlfriend to dinner, brother Gus (Paul
Schneider) and Sister-in law Karin (Emily Mortimer) have a hard time
getting past one simple fact: she's a life-sized doll. Now his family
and the entire town need to decide if they will accept Bianca into
their lives to show their love for Lars, or send him to the looney bin.
Lars and the Real Girl is by no means action-packed, but it is a
sweet movie with a powerful message. It managed to capture my heart in
a very unexpected way, and I consider this quirky comedy to be a
treasure among films.
