You look in your cupboards and you find nothing to eat. So, you decide to go to the grocery store. You finish your shopping, spend way too much money and take all your food home. Then, the next day you go to the cupboard again and still, you have nothing to eat.
Grocery shopping, especially for one person, can be difficult. That’s why we’ve put together a few tips on how to keep that cupboard looking stocked for more than a day, and hopefully save you some money too!
The best and probably most important advice anyone can give before going to the grocery store is to make a list. Try to plan out meals for at least a week. Think of foods you might need and write them all down.
Don’t impulse buy while shopping, stick to your list.
Never shop on an empty stomach. It will only make you want to buy everything in sight.
Make one large trip to the grocery store each month to get all the basic staples. Then, make the smaller, less expensive trips each week, or as often as needed.
When a basic item that you regularly use goes on sale, stock up on it.
Because of large volume discounts, bigger grocery stores are usually cheaper to shop at than smaller stores.
Shop alone. Company will only add to your cart.
Look on the top and bottom shelves for the better deals. More expensive, name-brand items are usually at eye level to catch your attention.
When making your list and trying to decide what to buy, look at a grocery ads. This will help you think of ideas of what you need and will help you focus on the things that are on sale.
However, just because something says it is on sale doesn’t mean it is the best deal. Look at the tags to find out how much you are really paying. For example, the tag will usually say how much the cost is per ounce.
Buy things in season. You can usually tell when fruits are in season because they are on sale and look the best when they are. Condiments are usually on sale in the summer, and baking supplies are on sale during the holiday season.
