Chris Merritt and his band are the newest addition to a growing and vibrant music scene in Utah County. A native of Virginia and recent transplant from
Southern California, Chris now calls Provo home.
Chris has brought with him a brilliant and passionate talent for song writing that will make you think, feel, rock, and dance. To say it in only the way an album reviewer would, Provo’s newest starving artist “possesses a definite talent for cleverly turning a phrase and constructs engaging songs that are lyrically remarkable.” (Mita Pogue, buddyhollywood.com) Chris released his newest album, Hello, Little Captain, in May, which can be bought on iTunes, Amazon, and at local shows.
This 24-year-old has already started to use the Provo scene and his new friends as inspiration for new tunes, which he will add to the bank of 800+ songs that he brought with him to the Wasatch Front. Local music lovers will have several chances to start working their way through this collection since Chris has joined forces with long-time friend and Virginian Tim Fellow on drums and Provo’s own Dustin Hofheins on Bass. The new trio is called what else but “Chris Merritt” and pounds out a tight piano-driven rock show with a variety of styles. They won the Velour Summer Battle of the Bands in June, and were selected as one of six finalists for the Independent Music World Series in San Francisco this July. They toured So Cal in August, but are glad to be back with several local shows lined up for fall.
