With its tall ceilings and mod-vintage décor, Mode houses a selection of unique items for men, women, home and even baby. Clothing by brands like House of Spy, Modern Amusement, and Supermaggie hang perfectly while hiding the stores best treasure in the back, “The T-Shirt Bar.” Pick out a T and an image from their large catalog of high quality transfers and within minutes you’ve created your own custom T-shirt.

Operating for the past 33 years as a
flower store, this specialty shop has just recently started carrying
trendy clothing lines like Flux Nouveau, French Connection and Shade
Clothing’s new label, Basic Black. With its merchandising reminiscent
of an Anthropologie store,this boutique hosts collections of handmade
jewelry, note cards, books, dishes and Hobo wallets.

With a speed/shooting cage in the basement to measure the velocity of your shot, you know this store means business when it comes to hockey. In fact they’re so serious about the sport that they carry over 8 brands of gear and offer skate sharpening and repair. But you don’t need to be a hockey player to enjoy this store, though being a Canadian might be a plus, they also have a variety of confectionary goods from our neighbors up north.

Meet one of University Avenue’s newest tenants. Opened by friends, Clinton Atwater and Mike Kowallis, Metropolitan is an urban hair salon that offers as they say “everything and anything” that has to do with hair. Occupying what was formally Giff’s Corner, the space now is a creative hair mecca lined with tall mirrors and bold art pieces created by Atwater himself. Pricing ranges from $30- $40 depending on your stylist and needs.
